I dont know who he is but:
“Roger Ebert has declared that Idiot with a Tripod, shot by an amateur filmmaker named Jamie Stuart during this week’s snowstorm in New York City, should win the Academy Award for best live-action short subject.”

After the release of the last Gorillaz album Plastic Beach (2010), i read that Damon Albarn the lead singer of the band said that their next album would be written and preformed on the the iPad. Well this is it, its out and you can listen to it for free on thefall.gorillaz.com/
Im giving it a first listen right now and it sounds smooth, cool and is interesting.
Kind of makes me think about what apps they may have used?

Every once in a while i come across some really interesting independently made short movies.
This short movie is a sci-fi set in space on a space ship around the moon. Its made by Ben Craig, known as BC2010 on Vimeo and apparantly he made this “with no money, just a little time and a lot of passion”.
Great short and delightfully entertaining.

A while back i used to use Pandora.com to listen to music, but due to copyright infringements and the related issues Pandora is now only available to selected countries. I also used to use HotSpotShield to access Pandora using an American VPN but lately it just hasn’t been working for me. Which is when a friend informed of about Grooveshark.com; a music streaming website which is similar to Pandora.
It is really cool, updated by anyone and streams pretty quick with a good quality too! The interface is really simple to use, it looks a little like iTunes and features readily available smart playlists which list the most popular songs and the most recent songs you listened to. You can setup you own playlist and play them in an external widget or even share them with your friends.
They are working on an application for the iPhone which will be great once its out. Every song, at any moment in excellent quality and anywhere. I can’t wait till its out, apparently it has been ready for almost a year but Grooveshark has been awaiting approval from the Apple App Store.

A few days back i was strolling through X-Cite at The Avenues Mall and showing my friend the Beats by Dr.Dre Headphones when i saw the Lady Gaga Heartbeats earphones. This is interesting because on Gaga’s website they are still not available yet. They are priced at 49KD for the white ones and 35KD for the black ones, which is not bad considering they sell for $99.99USD on bestbuy.com and $120USD on the beatsbydre website.
I am a big fan of Lady Gaga, and i like the red and white earphones but i don’t think i would buy them or use them. Or maybe that would depend on the sound quality?

It has been forever since i last blogged; i’ve been busy with University studies and the upcoming Kuwait Architecture Students Association’s 7th Annual KASA Exhibition.
A few months back i took my car to the dealership for a slight vibration that would randomly occur in any gear and after a few days of diagnosis and random part replacement it turned out that the driveshaft was unbalanced and needed to be changed.
Around three months later i took it in to have the steering wheel re-centered and they discovered that the front bushings needed to be replaced and lucky for me it was covered under the 3-year or 60’000km bumper-to-bumper warranty but unlucky for me the parts weren’t currently available and would have to be ordered.
Less than a week later my clutch died! I was shifting from second gear to third gear when the clutch and flywheel plates suddenly decided they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. It was 1:10am and i was in Jabriya heading to the gas station when it happened and after a few phone calls to Ford’s 24 Hour roadside assistance hotline they came to collect the car.
The following morning i got a call from my service advisor and he told me that the parts would cost 599KD and their labour charges would be 129KD giving a total of 728KD!
Now i was already planning on going for a Cold Air Intake System and a 93 Octane tune and so obviously the stock clutch wouldn’t last long after those modifications. I told him that it is too expensive and i would be getting an aftermarket replacement clutch. I found the clutch i wanted, a Spec Stage 2 clutch which can hold upwards of 400rwtq and an aluminum flywheel which should give me a better off the line launch and overall drive ability. After shipping and installation it would cost me around 490KD. He returned with some unwelcome information, an aftermarket clutch would void my 5-Year or 100’000KM warranty on the Engine, ECU, Transmission and Rear Differential and that after discount the price was lowered to 615KD. I remembered that my front bushings needed to be replaced and that i was sometimes having trouble engaging/disengaging the clutch when at wide-open-throttle so i changed the clutch with them.
Less than a week later i got a call from the dealership telling me the front bushings had arrived! Hip hip hooray! He also asked me if i had been having problems with my new clutch and i had. It still wouldn’t engage/disengage at high rpms and at random instances fourth gear would spit back out, they sent over a technician to take the car out for a drive and lucky enough second gear wouldn’t engage at all and fourth gear too. They told me the car would get done by wednesday if there was nothing wrong with it and if there was something wrong with the transmission it wouldn’t.
It still hasn’t finished. Regardless, the more interesting thing is what i found in the dealership when i was waiting to collect my car after the clutch replacement.
At first i didn’t know what this car was but after a little research it turns outs its a Farboud Farbio GTS sports car.

On the second day of Eid i was pleasantly awoken by a friend of mine at 8am, a group of friends were going out for breakfast in Johnny Rockets at Marina Crescent and he wanted me to attend. The breakfast was amazing, the weather was freezing cold, the rain was smashing down, the air, lands, and sea was wet and it was amazing; the hangout was one of the best.
Afterward i passed by Virgin to have a look at there latest books and music and whilst i was there i heard a cover of Hotel California by what sounded to me like The Killers or at least their lead singer Brandon Flowers. When i got home i Googled it and got the answer, it was.
The song was featured in Rhythms Del Mundo Classics, a collaborative album by various artists of which all the proceedings go to an environmental nonprofit organization Artists Project Earth, which raises public awareness and funds for climate change projects and for disaster relief efforts.
I downloaded it, because that what you do when you find music and i liked a few of the tracks;
#1. Hotel California – The Killers
#9. Runaway – The Zutons
#12. For What It’s Worth – OneRepublic
#14. Beat It – Fall Out Boy & John Mayer
#16. Smells Like Teen Spirit – Shanade
I never really cared for the Beat It cover by FOB; but the whole RDM album has a mexican/latin theme and it changed that a bit.
I also bought a copy of The World According To Clarkson Volume II: “And Another Thing…”, i have the first installment and the third and a few other books, but whenever I’de find the second installment I’de always be either strapped for cash or already reading something else. I bought this one because it was the last copy at Virgin and i didnt want to order it online.
Anyways when i was at Marina Mall and crossing the bridge between the Mall and Marina Crescent i noticed something strange and typical. It had been raining all of last night and all morning but i don’t usually expect to see this in a Mall; the poorly constructed and maintained mall’s bridge’s roof was leaking rain all over the place, and instead of the mall’s management shutting off the half of the bridge that was covered in water until maintenance handles it, they used buckets to collect the rainwater. Kinda reminded me about a personal project i wanted to start a few months back critiquing the design, construction, maintenance and the future of B.O.T. project Malls like the 360 Mall, Marina Mall and The Avenues in Kuwait.
This was one of my happiest Eids ever for me, great friends, great family and great food. :) I hope you all had a happy Eid!

I have always found Zaha Hadid’s architectural forms to be inspiring and somehow revolutionary.
And forms like the one in the image above is nothing out of the ordinary from the Architect Zaha Hadid. However, there is something very peculiar about the above “thing’s” function. I made a few friends try to guess the function of this thing, first they all knew it was Hadid’s work just by looking at it but for the function i got the answers; “Stadium”, “Mosque” and “Office Building”. Ladies and gentlemen it is a coffee, tea, milk and something tray set. Basically, its a tea tray, or in Kuwaiti we call it “9eeeiyat chai”. Regardless of it’s redundant functionability and its form, which i think looks spectacular, the price of one of these items will set you back $33’500 (9700KD), but dont think that for this price you will get a one of a kind piece! 99 sets of this tray set will be made and you can be one of the lucky one who gets to buy and use one of these by visiting the link below. It is not exactly my cup of tea so i will stick to my 1/4KD Sook Al-Mahameed tea tray thank you very much!

The video i posted earlier today reminded me of a little curiosity i have with heights and numbers. Or more, whenever i hear of a building’s height i think about how long it would take something to reach the ground when thrown off the top or dropped off of the top of the building. I usually go ahead to calculate the answers using some of the high-school and Physics 101 class from university.
Follow the jump to find out how long it would take you to hit the ground if you throw yourself off Burj Dubai, Burj Al-Hamra, Kuwait Towers or The World Trade Center!

The NHTSA has just launched a new part of their crash testing program that will test the force of the impact when a car crashes into a lamp post or an equally skinny object.
Ive always wondered if the current side impact crash testing is even remotely related to the impact of a pole in real life and i guess these new tests will regulate future standards and affect the safety designs of car companies in future.
The videos below show the tests preformed on a 2010 Mustang, and 2010 Mustang Convertible. Now ive seen crash test before and even side crash testing, but results like these are a bit alarming. The 2005+ Mustangs have all gotten five star crash rating for driver and passenger frontal and side impacts, as well as rollover performance by the NHTSA but these new tests might show otherwise. Have a look at the video and look at how the chassis reacts, I’m glad its still intact and very stable, the distortion is very minimal compared to what ive seen in real life but I’m guessing the speed they are tested on are a lot slower than what ive seen in real life too.
This will evolve the standards of crash safety greatly. And it looks great too! :P
Videos after the jump!
